Does anyone know how to remove the ignition switch from the dash board? I need to check on my connections as I've developed an ignition problem and have discovered a loose wire dangling in that general area. I'm wondering if it's come loose from the ignition switch.

The car is one of the last Austin 8 model, dated late 1947/early 1948

I have not done this myself but the Pitman's book shows a bracket fitted to the rear of the switch, which presumably has a screw or threaded rod and nuts to undo.

Yes, I can see the bracket but it seems to be welded to the scuttleat its top end and then attached to the steering rack by two bolts at the bottom. I'm beginning to wonder if the only way is to detach the whole dashboard and allow it to drop forward, with all the fiddling that will entail!

I think I've solved this problem. By disconnecting and removing the speedometer, you can gain (just!) access to a wire clip that holds the ignition switch in place. It's awkward to get a screwdiver to the screw holding it in place but nothing was easy even in the 1940s!
